Society of Indiana Archivists and University Library at Indiana University Indianapolis Partner for Workshops

The Society of Indiana Archivists (SIA) is partnering with University Library at Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis to provide educational workshops related to creating and curating digital collections. This partnership is made possible through generous funding provided by the Indianapolis Foundation’s Library Fund.

Over the next two years, SIA’s fall and spring workshops will feature programming focused on copyright, digitization, metadata, and collection development through this partnership. The goal of these workshops is to increase professional development for individuals working in Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAMs) across the state to build a larger network for support and collaboration. For these workshops, additional scholarships of $253 will be available for up to twenty eligible participants.

These workshops are a part of the larger grant project “Sustaining the Community for Indiana Memory and Indiana’s Digital Collections,” which aims to increase support for Indiana Memory, Indiana State Library (ISL)’s statewide aggregated database of Indiana’s primary-source digital collections. This project is being led by Research Information Management Librarian Olivia MacIsaac and Digital Preservation and Digital Collections Archivist Evan N. Miller. In addition to these workshops, the project will allow University Library to assess its current digital collection practices and collaborate with ISL to build a network of statewide practitioners to continue to expand open, online access to Indiana’s digital collections.

University Library has long supported digital initiatives that promote open, online access to primary sources and information related to Indiana’s history. SIA is excited to join forces with University Library to plan these professional development opportunities and support increased access to Indiana’s archival materials and history.
